How to prepare for your examination
- Contact your physicians office and have any
previous mammograms sent to ADI prior to your exam.
- If youre claustrophobic, ask your physician
to write a prescription for sedating medication. You may take pain medication
if needed.
- Contact ADI if you have a pacemaker or any
non-removable metallic implants.
- You may bring CDs to listen to while being
scanned. You may also listen to CDs from ADIs collection.
What to expect during your scan
- Expect to be at ADI for about 45 minutes to one
hour.
- Youll need to change into a gown.
- An I.V. will be started containing contrast which
is used to help detect breast cancer in the case of dense breasts, implants,
malignant lymph nodes, or scarring after treatment for breast cancer, or
diagnosis of auspicious breast lesion in order to avoid biopsy.
- You will lie on your stomach with your arms over
your head while youre being scanned.
- Youll hear a few loud noises while
youre being scanned. Theyre caused by the interaction of the
magnetic fields in the scanner and are not a cause for concern.
- The results of your exam will be sent to your
physician a few days after your scan.
